Obituary for Violet McAllister (Reeder)

Violet Rebecca (Reeder) McAllister, 94, died Monday December 19, 2022 in Oak Hill Village, Middletown. She was formerly of Marysville and Vernon Street in Harrisburg. She was born January 15, 1928 in Perry County to the late T. Wesley and Mary E. (Toomey) Reeder. She graduated from New Bloomfield High School in 1946 and was married to the late Charles D. McAllister for 42 years.

Violet is survived by her daughter Kathie Smith (Gus) of South Hanover Twp.; her sister Ruth Gantt (Late Jesse) of Newport; four grandchildren, Ami Sawyer (Jim), James McAllister (Tammy C.), Wesley McAllister (Crista), Thomas E. Hand Jr. (Heather); and seven great grandchildren, Ashley, Megan, Lacey, Cameron, Christian, Conner, and Violet. She was preceded in death by three sisters Pearl Blaine (Late Lester), Annie Campbell (Late Roy), Florence Barkley (Late Howard) and one brother Thomas Reeder (Late Ruth) and one granddaughter Bambi Lynn Martin.

She was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church Harrisburg for many years, and later at Pine Street Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg.

She worked in Pittsburgh at the Crippled Children''s Home and then in the retail field at Woolworth''s, Gimbel''s, Hess''s, and retired from Boscov''s (Captial City Mall) as a Sales Manager. She made countless longtime friends at every job.

Violet loved her family and friends, the Phillies, playing Yahtzee and going for a drive.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 23, 2022 at 12:00 PM in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 South Harrisburg Street, Oberlin. Viewing will be from 11:00 AM till time of service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.
