Obituary for Orlando Donato



Orlando A. "Lowie" Donato, 88, of Steelton, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He will be forever missed by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Caroline Borota Donato.

Lowie was the seventh of eight brothers. Born on May 12, 1932 in Steelton, Lowie was the son of the late Joseph Donato, Sr. and Ann Tucci Donato. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughter, Alexandra and husband, Jack McFall; grandchildren, Alexis McFall and J.D. McFall; brothers, Samuel Donato of Swatara Twp. and Aurelio Donato and his wife, Joanne of Woodstock, GA; sister-in-law, Helen Albanese Donato of Rutherford; and several nieces and nephews.

He attended Steelton High School for three years and transferred to St. Francis Prep, Spring Grove, where he graduated in 1952. He enjoyed playing football, baseball, basketball and golf. He also was a manager/player for 19 years for the City Twilight League and was a basketball official and Assistant Baseball Coach at Steel-High for several years. Lowie retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. He was a member of the former St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Steelton and was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Harrisburg, the Steelton Italian Club, St. Mary's Club, Hershey Italian Lodge, St. Nicholas Senior Citizens and Serbian Educational Club.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 AT 11:00 AM in Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S. Harrisburg St., OBERLIN, with Rev. Philip White OFM Cap, Officiating. BURIAL WILL BE PRIVATE in Churchville Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 am until 11:00 am in the funeral home. Current COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines will be enforced. Face masks and social distancing are required.
