Obituary for Lawrence Sviben

Lawrence J. Sviben, 93, of Hershey, passed away on June 12, 2022. He was born in Steelton on August 10, 1928, and raised on the former West Side. He was known to others as Larry or Skip, but for the past 30 years, he has been known to many as Pap.

Lawrence graduated from Steelton High School, class of 1946. He retired from the Penn State Hershey Medical Center as a group leader and utility equipment operator in the physical plant department. He was previously employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp., Steelton and SCI Camp Hill. Lawrence was the son of the late Joseph (Josip) and Mary (Marija Cajko) Sviben.

Lawrence is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa M. Sviben Miller & husband Philip M. Miller; two adoring grandsons, Philip-John L. Miller (PJ) and his wife, Megan Ozimok Miller, Palmyra & Zachary C. Miller and his fiance, Emma L. Winsett, Lewisberry, two great-grandchildren, Cooper L. Miller & Kelcey L. Miller, Palmyra; a sister, Anna J. Sviben, Hershey and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Magdalene M. "Tina" (Komishock) Sviben; a stepson, Michael D. Fossati; four brothers, Stephen, John (Red), Michael and Joseph P. Sviben, one sister Mary H. Manley.

Lawrence enjoyed playing and watching sports, spending time with family, but especially spending time with his grandsons. He loved going to their games and competitions and watching them compete as their greatest supporter and fan. Over the past couple years, he looked forward to the time spent with his great grandchildren, Cooper and Kelcey, as well. He was always there to lend an ear or a helping hand. His loving, kind, generous, and prayerful spirit was observed by all that had the privilege to meet and know him.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Palmyra & the St. Lawrence Club in Steelton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 12:00 pm in Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 300 W. Pine Street, Palmyra with Rev. Anthony Dill, Pastor, Celebrant. A viewing will be held prior to Mass from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm in the church. Burial at the conclusion of Mass will be in Hershey Cemetery. Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Oberlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association of Central PA, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011 to assist those with fibrosis of the lungs.
