Obituary for Clement LaVia

Clement W. LaVia, 91, of Swatara Township, died Sunday, January 8, 2023 in his home.

He was a retired Sheet Metal Worker for Herre Bros. and G.C. Sponaugle, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, and a member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Swatara Twp., Marine Corps League, Sheet Metals Workers Union Local 19, and Lawnton American Legion Post 998.

Clem was a very generous and loving heart that he shared with family, friends and neighbors. He had a great sense of humor and loved spending times with loved ones as often as possible. He will be dearly missed.

Clem was the son of the late William M. and Nellie Devine Lewis LaVia and the widower of Rose M. Conway LaVia. He is survived by six daughters, Mary Zimmerman of Newport, Darlene McHugh and husband, Patrick of Harrisburg, Christine Schindel and husband, Samuel of Morgantown, WV, Lorraine LaVia and husband, Bruce Mulock of Arlington, VA, Diane LaVia-Ricci and husband, John of Palmyra, and Michelle Caicedo and husband, Christian of Lewisberry; 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one pre-deceased; his sister, Mary Brown, of Mechanicsburg; a sister-in-law, Sheila Laughlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William "Bull" LaVia, Jr.and son-in-law, William Zimmerman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 am in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church with Rev. James E. Lease, his Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 am in his church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Oberlin.
