Obituary for Barbara Coates (Chaney)
Barbara Gayle (Chaney) Coates, 74, of Highspire, died Thursday, April 20, 2023 in the Gardens of Blue Ridge.
She was the Director of the Steelton Senior Center for four years and worked for the Dauphin County Department of Aging. For 28 years she worked at the former Mechanics Savings and Loan in Steelton. She was a lifetime Auxiliary Member of the Steelton VFW Post 710. Barb love to sew, bake and do crafts.
Barbara was the daughter of the late Jack Chaney and Edith Paulk Chaney and was the widow of Elzer N. "Chip" Coates, III and was preceded in death by her brother, James Chaney. She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Lyn Bulett (Scott), Elizabethtown; one granddaughter, Bridget Magdeline Coates, Elizabethtown; her brother, Jack Chaney and wife Kim, Belton, TX; sister Bevery Heine, Missouri; cousins, Maureen A. Cleaver and deceased husband, Dwain, Duncannon, Michael Polinko, Merced, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 11:30 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 South Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, with Rev. Dr. Alan C. Wenrich, Officating. Burial at the conclusion of services will be in Highspire Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 am - 11:00 am in the funeral home. Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Oberlin.
