Obituary for Angeline Monzaney (DeFilippo)

Angeline E. DeFilippo Monzaney, 97, of Mechanicsburg, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 27 at her home.

The daughter of the late Giustina (Librandi) and Onofrio DeFilippo, she was the widow of John E. Monzaney.

She grew up in Steelton and attended St. Ann''s School and Steelton High School. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Mechanicsburg, and prior to that St. Francis of Assisi and Sacred Heart Parishes in Harrisburg. She was a clerk for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation prior to retirement and a past member of the Steelton Italian Club Auxiliary and the West Shore Sons of Italy Lodge.

Angie was devoted to her family and had many treasured friends. She was full of gratitude for her faith, for her happy childhood and adolescence in Steelton, and the life that she and John had built together, first in Shipoke and on Berryhill Street in Harrisburg, later in Mechanicsburg. She loved spending time with her work friends and often told stories about the good times they had. She had great perspective about what really matters in life and never had a problem either expressing affection or telling anyone to exercise good judgment and common sense when she felt they were lacking. She paid attention to what was happening in the world and would happily share her opinions with anyone who would listen. I loved Angie! was repeated over and over again when the news of her passing was shared.

Angie is survived by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and cousins, and by her sisters-in-law Christine, Ezzie, and Harriet DeFilippo. She was predeceased by sisters Rhoda Acri and Evelyn DeVito and brothers Frank, Eligio, Adolph, Mariano, Alfred, and Michael DeFilippo.

The family wishes to thank Angie''s helpers, Connie and Marina, and all of Angie''s neighbors, family, and friends, for their kindnesses to her over the years, as well as those at her church who kept in touch when Angie could no longer attend Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Katharine Drexel Church, 1 Peter Drive, Mechanicsburg, with Rev. Kenneth G. Smith, Pastor, Celebrant, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in her church. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania regulations will be enforced; social distancing and masks are required. However, if you are at risk, or could put others at risk, the family respectfully asks that you remember Angie in your prayers in lieu of attending and assures you that she would understand. A summer celebration of Angie''s life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Oberlin.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 1 Peter Drive, Mechanicsburg PA, 17050, or to a favorite charity.
