Obituary for Andrew Padjen

Andrew Padjen, 90, of Shiremanstown, formerly of Steelton, passed away Friday, October 21, 2022 at UPMC West Shore Hospital.

Andy was a graduate of Steelton High School Class of 1950. He was a graduate of Dickinson College with a B.A. in Biology and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He received his Masters of Education from Shippensburg University and Principal''s Certification from Western Maryland College. He served two years in the Army as a member of the 10th Infantry Division in Germany from 1955-1957.

He retired from Steelton-Highspire High School after 35 years, having served as a classroom teacher, Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal and ten years as Principal. He coached Junior High School football and basketball, was assistant varsity football coach, varsity baseball coach, and in the summers coached American Legion Post 420 baseball. He was the last President of the Central Penn Football and Basketball League. He was inducted into the Capitol Area Chapter, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 and served on the Executive Committee of the Capitol Area Chapter for 20 years. He was a former member of the Steelton Club and American Legion Post 420. After retirement, Andy worked part time for the PA Liquor Control Board. Andy was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Steelton, for 60 years.

Born September 7, 1932 in Harrisburg to the late Andy and Anna (Jazavac) Padjen, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia (Fisher) Padjen; one daughter, Karen Reisinger (Ronald), one grandson, David Andrew Reisinger (Ashley) and one great granddaughter, Addison, all of Harrisburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Padjen of Allentown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathryn Deibler and Anna Shepler and brothers, Samuel,Steve and George Padjen.

Andy was a loving husband, exceptional father, grandfather and great grandfather and always loved and enjoyed his continued connection with his former students.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the numerous physicians, nurses, and medical staff for the excellent care they gave to Andy over these past years.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 S. Harrisburg St., Oberlin with Rev. Robert Ryder, his Pastor, officiating. Burial Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the funeral home.
